Professional Career:
• Completed pre-commission training from Italian Naval Academy, Livorno, Italy: 1981-85
• Completed Staff Course from Defence Services Command & Staff College, Mirpur, Dhaka: 1995-96 and second Staff Course from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India: 1996-97
• Participated in Law of the Sea and Maritime Law Enforcement Course from University of Wollongong: 1999 and Maritime Component Commander’s Course from Pacific Command HQ, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 2012
• He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence College, Delhi, India: 2013
• Commanded various naval ships including Patrol Craft, Missile Boats, Offshore Patrol Vessels, Frigates etc at different times of his career, including the Flagship BNS Bangabandhu.
• Served in Naval HQ at different times as Deputy Director of Naval Operations, Director of Naval Training, Director of Personnel Services, etc.
• Served in Defence Services Command & Staff College, Mirpur as a Directing Staff (Instructor): 1999-2002.
• Served in Naval HQ as Secretary to Chief of Naval Staff in 2003.
• Participated in the UN Peacekeeping Mission as a military observer in Ivory Coast in 2006.
• Served as Project Director for the Regeneration of Island class and Castle class warships in UK and brought ships as the Captain on homebound voyage from UK to Bangladesh in 2004 and 2010.
• Served as the Commandant of Bangladesh Naval Academy in 2007-08.
• Served as Director General, Civil Military Relations of Armed Forces Division, Prime Minister’s Office in 2011-13.
• Served as the Fleet Commander of Bangladesh Navy from December 2013 to February 2016.
• Served as the Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority from February 2016 to February 2018 when he undertook huge initiatives for the capacity building of ports and other maritime infrastructures for trade facilitation.
• Served as the Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University from 2018 to 2023 when he expanded the horizon of the University as a Centre of Maritime Excellence through new curriculums, international maritime seminars and strengthened the image and standard of maritime education through collaborative efforts with foreign Universities.
• He is a maritime think tank and has a knack for research on blue economy, maritime security, maritime law, maritime education, port development and other maritime matters.
